Resumo
Nesta investigação procurou-se identificar qual o contributo do poder espacial na estratégia
das pequenas potências europeias, colocando especial atenção no caso português. Como
campo de observação, foram escolhidas quatro pequenas potências: Bélgica, Dinamarca,
Irlanda e Portugal.
Através da análise da exploração que cada uma das quatro pequenas potências selecionadas
faz do poder espacial, foi respondida a questão central “Qual o contributo do poder espacial na
estratégia das pequenas potências europeias, nas vertentes política, económica e de segurança
nacional?”, afirmando que o poder espacial das pequenas potências europeias contribui
para a sua estratégia em três vertentes: (i) permitindo que se tornem mais assertivas nas
relações internacionais e permitindo condicionar ou influenciar terceiros através de tratados
internacionais, (ii) promovendo conhecimento que se traduz em desenvolvimento tecnológico
e competitividade para o tecido empresarial e (iii) facultando acesso a produtos relevantes no
âmbito da segurança.
This research work aimed to determine the contribution of space power to the small powers strategy, placing special emphasis on the Portuguese case. Four small European powers were chosen as a field of observation, having been selected Belgium, Denmark, Ireland and Portugal. By analyzing in detail the way that each of the four states use space power, it was possible to answer the central question “What is the contribution of space power to the European small powers strategy, regarding politics, economy and national security?” by stating that space power of european small powers contribute to its strategy in three ways: (i) enabling small powers to become more assertive in international affairs and enabling the ability to influence others through international treaties and agreements, (ii) promoting knowledge which then translates into technological development, competitiveness to companies and (iii) providing access to relevant products on security.
