Atitudes portuguesas e europeias perante as línguas

Abstract

A partir da análise dos resultados de um estudo sobre o conhecimento de línguas nos países da União Europeia, realizado no âmbito do Ano Europeu das Línguas, é feito um breve diagnóstico das atitudes dos portugueses perante as línguas estrangeiras. Neste diagnóstico, a cultura linguística portuguesa é parcialmente comparada com as de outros países europeus e sobre algumas das suas características mais relevantes é apresentado um enquadramento histórico.The results of the special Eurobarometer opinion survey about Europeans and languages, published by the European Commission for the European Year of Languages, are the basis for the outlining of Portuguese attitudes towards languages. In this text, Portuguese linguistic culture is compared with the situation in other EU countries and the historical background of its main features is described.
